Drawing inspiration from the Kurdish tale of Shahmaran, a half-snake, half-woman with an uncompromising spirit, Rotterdam-based DJ Shahmaran fearlessly brings together diverse and uncanny strands of bass-driven music to soundtrack narratives of escape and hope. Merging broken beats, breaks, bass music, and leftfield techno, DJ Shahmaran’s sonic explorations embody the intersection of tradition and experimentation in electronic music. With a former residency at renowned club De School, as well as regular support from United Identities and SPIELRAUM, DJ Shahmaran continues to push boundaries of what club music can be. Their radio show ‘Ecdysis’ (i.e. the process of molting/shedding skin) showcases their sonic palette through unexpected new sounds from underground producers as well as exciting guest appearances.
